With my big Brother Dean, I started dancing as a little girl. |

INSTRUCTED BY: SONDRA CHAN
Prior to instructing dance, I worked as an Occupational Therapist and a Social Worker. My experience in the health fields has given me the background to be sensitive to individual students needs and abilities in order to encourage and motivate them to reach their chosen dance goals.
In 1987-88, I trained, tested out and taught full-time for a nationally franchised School of Dance where I was trained and taught the following dances: Cha-Cha, Rumba, Mambo, Samba, Swing Hustle, Swing, Merengue, Waltz, Fox Trot, Tango, Polka and Country Two-Step.
In 1996, I was invited to join the staff of Northwest Athletic Clubs' huge Social Dance Program where I trained and taught classes in the following dances: Cha-Cha, Rumba, Salsa, Merengue, Swing, Foxtrot, Waltz and Tango. This nationally franchised club system was purchased by Life Time Fitness, who requested me to Direct and re-build the Social Dance Program including Dance Parties and instructor training programs.. this is when I turned to my trainer and my friend, the Director from the N.A.C Program.
In 2007, my coach and mentor, Harry Benson, Pro-DVIDA, owner and operator of Cheek to Cheek Dance Studio, and I started a DVIDA Syllabi: Dance Vision International Dance Association training program in all of the Smooth and Rhythm dances for students in Minnesota who were candidates to become instructors. He also prepared me for the exam, which I passed in 2009. I am now one of only, 8 instructors in Georgia and 10 Instructors in Minnesota , who are Certified by DVIDA, the top syllabi taught in American and other countries for American Style Ballroom Dance.
